On behalf of the Hellenic Community Foundation (the “Foundation”) I would like to thank you and the Parish Council for allowing us to meet at Prophet Elias during your scheduled Parish Council Meeting on June 6th, 2010.  Although no definitive conclusions were reached, the meeting allowed some to talk through issues that have transpired, and hopefully that was helpful to both groups.

 

At the conclusion of our meeting, there were two items requested by the Parish Council.  

A letter from the HCF proposing how each entity could “book” in accounting terms the ‘Skedros Funds’ and a proposed letter  to be reviewed by the Parish Council for publication in the Messenger.

 

The HCF Board met this past week and decided to draft and mail, a letter going directly to the Greek Orthodox community of Salt Lake, as opposed to reaching the community through the Messenger.  We will do our best in mailing the letter to all Church members, however we are uncertain if our correspondence will reach all members, since repeated requests for the Church’s mailing list have been denied by the Parish Council making the list unavailable to the HCF.

 

 The HCF has made the decision  to book the ‘Skedros Funds’ as a restricted payable, restricted to the construction of a gymnasium on the Holy Trinity campus. We trust this helps the Parish Council in determining how it may want to designate the funds within the Parish books.

 

Since we have taken stewardship of the ‘Skedros Funds’ they have grown and are approaching $1 million dollars. We are eager to continue with our fundraising efforts, but fundraising will prove to be difficult without having additional information as to the timing, proposed physical location, architectural renderings, etc., regarding the Holy Trinity Campus.  We stand ready to assist the community and the Parish Council with any tasks needed to accomplish that end.

 

We encourage and request the Parish Council to reconvene the Hellenic Heritage Campaign Committee, which includes many of our current Board members.  The HHCC had great success in the past, and will be able to forward recommendations to the Parish Council and ultimately the community, not only regarding the gymnasium, but other immediate needs of the campus, where funds have also been raised and held by the community.
